This past Monday, the U.N. Commission of Inquiry formally presented its report at the U.N. Human Rights Council.

The report included detailed information about the human rights violations in the country, stating that "The gravity, scale and nature of these violationsdoes not have any parallel in the contemporary world. Now that the report has been presented, a strong resolution needs to be adopted by the Human Rights Council, ensuring that the Commission of Inquirys recommendations will be acted upon.

The U.N. Secretary General should also act by referring the Commission of Inquirys report to the Security Council as a matter of urgency.

Furthermore, U.N. agencies that operate inside North Korea, such as UNICEF and the World Food Programme, can play an important role by better addressing human rights concerns through their work. It is only through such coordinated action that the international community can demonstrate its absolute support for the North Korean people.
