Although North Korea denies wanting to use captured American Kenneth Bae for leverage against the US government, a video of an interview with Bae made by a pro-North Korean group in Japan has been released at around the same time that North Korea began to call for talks with the US government. In the video, Bae describes his forced labor on a farm and expresses a desire to go home for his fathers 70th birthday. In the past, former presidents Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton have both gone to North Korea to secure the release of other Americans jailed for crimes against the NK government.
