Korean Government Strives to Ensure Better Treatment of Defectors

In an effort to ensure North Korean defectors that are on their way to the South are treated in a proper manner, the South Korean government has announced that it will ask defectors about their treatment in South Korean embassies. This will take place once they arrive in Korea. The decision follows allegations of verbal abuse at the embassy in Thailand. This comes at a time when the South Korean government is analyzing how best they can utilize welfare spending to help defectors settle in the South after recent articles and reports which show the difficulties that defectors have in adjusting to life in the South.
