On the 27th the US State departments Trafficking in Person report ranked North Korea as the worst of a three tier ranking.

This report makes it the thirteenth year in a row the State department has classified North Korea as one of the worst countries with regards to its human trafficking regulation.

Third tier nations were those who disregard the US Trafficking Victims Protection Act and failed to fulfill even the most basic requirements to human trafficking prevention. The report condemned North Korea for forcibly sending 50,000 workers to foreign countries to work.

Additionally, the report shared how there are between 80,000 and 120,000 people that are forced to work long hours in political prison camps who in many cases these prisoners have not been prosecuted, convicted, or sentenced in a judicial proceeding. The report urged North Korea to change many current policies such as to stop forced labor in its political prison camps, cease severe punishment for those repatriated to North Korea and to strengthen its monitoring and investigation of human trafficking activities.
