North Korean authorities have declared a ten-day period of mourning to mark the 20th anniversary of the death of Kim Il-sung, according to the Daily NK.

According to a source inside North Korea, state-run organizations and workplaces are continuing various memorial events for the period.

Kim Il-sung led North Korea from 1945 to his death, though he is still revered as the countrys Great Leader. As this year is an important year in the cycle, the source said that the North Korean people knew that there would be more events than in other years.

The source said, Nowadays people are having a hard time, as events related to the passing of Kim Il-sung are going on every single day in the Democratic Womens Union and workplaces alike. People really need to be out there trading and earning a living.

Nobody is complaining about it, maybe because ever since the purge of Jang Song-thaek (current North Korean leader Kim Jong-uns uncle) last year, if you picked a fight theyd just drag you away.

Plenty of young children are being mobilized to take part in performances of commemorative songs. According to the source, If this were any other kind of event they would already be complaining, but they are out there saying its ok.

If you were to raise objections at a time like this it would become a political problem and you could get punished, the source added.
