Abductees from Japan and South Korea are being force-fed ideological education and propaganda in Pyongyang to convince them of the superiority of the North Korean regime, according to the Telegraph.

Choi Song-yong, the head of an association of South Koreans whose family members are being held in the North said his informant in Pyongyang reported that around 80 abductees have been subjected to ideology classes since March.

Furthermore, abductees have been required to write letters stating that they had travelled to North Korea of their own free will, were living there freely and that they pledged their loyalty to Pyongyang, Choi said

Tokyo has submitted to North Korea a list of 470 Japanese nationals who have disappeared in the last 40 years and asked Pyongyang to conduct a thorough investigation into their whereabouts.

However, human rights groups in Japan have little faith that Pyongyang can be trusted to conduct an exhaustive search for the missing foreign nationals since North Korea has long been denying that any Japanese abductees are alive in North Korea.

"We believe that if North Korea does not return the abducted Japanese nationals within a certain period, then the government should not only re-impose those sanctions but also make them stronger," said Ken Kato, director of Human Rights in Asia and a member of the International Coalition to Stop Crimes Against Humanity in North Korea.
